Periodontal diseases are one of the biggest scourge upon mankind. No man is free from it. No race is free from it. Periodontal diseases are as a result of interplay between microorganisms and host response. Over 700 species of microbes are dwelling on the oral cavity. The periodontal diseases may also be influenced by alteration in general health as well. In this presentation, a brief outline of microbial influence and host interaction to understand the periodontal pathology will be discussed.
