After studies of Chemistry with the focus on spectroscopic methods he did his PhD in Biophysics investigating the degradation of polysaccharides by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Currently, he is the leader of a working group at the Medical Faculty of the Leipzig University. His research focus is on (phospho)lipids, their role in different pathologies and the investigation of lipid oxidation products generated under inflammatory conditions by using NMR, mass spectrometry and chromatographic techniques.
