As a primary cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, they burden healthcare systems and continue to evolve in ways that complicate effective treatment and prevention. This article reviews the medical impact of viral infections, highlighting advances in antiviral therapies, vaccines, and diagnostic techniques.
