Seroprevalence of Syphilis and HBV among Pregnant Women at Saint Paul?s Hospital Millennium Medical College, Addis Ababa Ethiopia

Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a global public health problem, even though its prevalence is disproportionately high in low- and middleincome countries. Mother-to-child transmission is a major route of HBV transmission in endemic areas. This study aimed to assess the seroprevalence of HBV, Syphilis and their determinant among pregnant women.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from July to September 2019 in 290 pregnant women at Saint Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Gestational and socioeconomic data were collected using a questionnaire. Serum Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and antibody against syphilis infection was tested using a rapid diagnostic test.
