Bone mineral density is a tool used for diagnosis which provides information through parameter on the quantity of mineral in bone, which refers to the main component of bone strength. The density of bone mineral tested using X-rays to measure the amount of minerals in bones. It is painless and quick test which estimates thickness of the bone. This test is important for people who are at risk for osteoporosis, especially women and older adults. The test is referred to as dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). A bone mineral density test, sometimes just called a bone density test, detects whether you have osteoporosis.
