An ocular prosthesis, artificial eye or glass eye is a type of craniofacial prosthesis that replaces a missing natural eye. Prosthetic eye can improve appearance of people who have lost their natural eye due to injury or disease. The artificial eye fits over an orbital implant and under the eyelids. The ocular prosthesis takes the shape of a convex shell. It is made of medical grade plastic acrylic. It is made up of whitish outer shell to imitate cornea of eye and a central round portion painted black or brown to make it look like iris of natural eye. Today, few ocular prostheses are made of cryolite glass.
