Specialized care is provided for the patient who has had an amputation whether due to injury or disease. Rehabilitation may be initiated during the patient’s stay in a hospital and continue as an outpatient care for prosthetic training with a new artificial limb. Therapists work closely with the local prosthetists to provide coordinated care. These experts provide care to restore mobility, decrease pain and swelling, and improve function in the amputee. The aim of the rehabilitation is to help the amputee to gain independence at the highest level they can, with the most efficient step possible. Rehabilitation should begin 5 days after the surgery
