Abstract :

The schizophrenia spectrum causes cognitive impairment. The brain damages are irreversible, but when the treatment occurs early, it is possible to control and mitigate these damages. Hallucinations, delusions, behavioral disorders, sleep disturbance and depression are some symptoms that can begin in the adolescence. However, in the adult stage the symptoms are clearer and the more assertive treatment is possible. This study aims cognitive comparison between a group of patients with schizophrenia spectrum in treatment and a group of healthy volunteers. A survey was conducted by applying a psychological test of objective nature, in two groups of volunteers, being a group composed of 9 patients with schizophrenia spectrum, organized, owners of their mental faculties and treated; and the other group of 15 healthy persons and not belonging of the hospital environment. The mean age is 40.22 and 30.6 years respectively. All tests were applied by a qualified and accredited professional in accordance with the rules in force in the country. From the analysis of Boxplot between the both groups, as shown in Figure 1, differentiation can be seen between the groups performances with 95.1% confidence interval and p-value between 0.0061 and 0.0056, discarding the hypothesis of equality between groups, however, it was observed that there is a long overlay between the results. It was a good surprise, because this long overlay was not expected and it is indicating improvement of this brain function. There are many variables in the treatments. It is important to combine medicines and therapeutic techniques to achieve better results for patients. On the other hand, what happens with the facial recognition in the healthy group? The persons are looking less the faces nowadays and they are losing this brain function?
