Abstract :

This mixed-method study explored the measures of specific character strengths and positive traits among six (6) children of separated parents of the Brother Martin Simpson Sections and College Department of La Salle University, Misamis Occidental, Philippines. The researcher used phenomenology to collect qualitative data through interview transcripts. The study reported on the character strengths dimension in terms of cognitive, emotional and social behavior. Psychometric properties of the researcherdeveloped tool were used for the quantitative phase. The tool involves a 5-factor model of character strengths which includes awareness, familial closeness, good counsel, dutifulness, and positiveness. The researcher was able to develop a reliable tool for intervention that can predict the tendency of a person to survive parental separation, based on the findings. The study points the need of separated parents may focus on child-rearing techniques that will enrich the character strengths among children and add the number of the participants to be able to set the norms for age and gender.
