Audiometry

Audiometry is the testing of a person's ability to hear various sound frequencies performed with the use of electronic equipment called an audiometer. It is used to identify and diagnose hearing loss. The equipment is used in health screening programs, for example in grade schools, to detect hearing problems in children.

The test is administered by an audiologist, a doctor who is specialized in hearing loss, balance issues, and other issues related to the function of the inner ear. An audiometry test determines at what level of intensity and tone a person hears.
