Cardiac Catheterization is a procedure used to diagnose and cure heart diseases. A thin plastic tube is placed into a vein or artery of human leg or arm, through that doctor can perform diagnostic test and treatment for heart diseases. This procedure is most often done to get information about the heart or its blood vessels. It rarely causes serious complications.
Cardiac cath is performed to find out if whether the heart disease is of the heart muscle, valves or coronary (heart) arteries. During the procedure, the pressure and blood flow in our heart can be measured.
Cardiac catheterization involves the insertion of a thin flexible tube known as catheter into the right or left side of the heart. The catheter is most often inserted from the groin or the arm.
