Cardiothoracic Anesthesia

Cardiothoracic Anesthesia is a sub department of anesthesia which specifically deals with the heart or chest/lung related pain diseases. This department deals with the postoperative, intraoperative, and preoperative care of adult patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery. It is a subspecialty of medical practice under the department of anesthesia.

Cardiothoracic Anesthesia plays a key role in coronary artery bypass surgery, heart valve surgery, heart transplants, lung transplants, heart/lung transplants, congenital heart surgery, etc. As these surgeries are complex in nature, extra training is required for cardiothoracic anesthesiology consultants to acquire the skills needed. Besides these, Cardiac anesthesia plays a key role in non-cardiac surgeries if the patient has cardiac complications.
