Clinical Immunology and Autoimmunity

Clinical immunology is the study of diseases caused by disorders of the immune system (low immune response, abnormal action, and malignant growth of the cellular elements of the system). Autoimmunity is the system of immune responses of an organism against its own healthy cells and tissues. Any disease that results from such an aberrant immune response is termed an autoimmune disease. Prominent examples include rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes mellitus type 1.
