Clinical Oncology

Clinical oncology encompasses all non-surgical cancer treatments, such as radiotherapy and systemic therapies. The majority of cancer patients have multiple treatments, such as surgery to remove a tumour, radiation, and/or systemic therapy. A surgical oncologist (or maybe another sort of doctor known as an interventional oncologist) would perform the operation, while a clinical or medical oncologist and their team would organise and administer the other treatments. Non-surgical cancer treatment is provided by both clinical oncologists and medical oncologists, although only clinical oncologists are qualified to administer radiotherapy.
