Diagnosing Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder is a mental disorder characterized by periods of elevated moods and periods of depression. in making thediagnosis of bipolar disorder, the psychiatrist will ask questions about your personal and family history of mental illness and/or bipolar disorder. Because bipolar disorder has a strong genomic component, family history is important in order to make an accurate diagnosis. According to the national institute of mental health studies are underway to examine whether electroencephalograms (EEGs) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies of the brain can reveal differences between bipolar disorder and related behavioural syndromes.
