Decreased production of thyroid hormone by thyroid gland results in hypothyroidism. Symptoms include tiredness, weight gain, dry skin, constipation, muscle weakness, depression, impaired memory and cretinism in children. Hypothyroidism is diagnosed by measuring the levels of thyroid –stimulating hormone and thyroxine levels in the blood.
