In intracellular signaling the signals are transmitted across the membrane of cells.
These signals act as messengers, hormones, proteins and other biological molecules which are identified by the receptors present on the cell surface which arbitrate their reaction to peptides and proteins like transcription factors which act as intracellular signaling molecules.
