Manufacturing Operations

Production and Operations Management is about the transformation of production and operational inputs into "outputs" that, when distributed, meet the needs of customers. The process in the above diagram is often referred to as the "Conversion Process". POM incorporates many tasks that are interdependent, but which can be grouped under five main headings: Product, Plant, Process, Programmes and People. Production management deals with converting raw materials into finished goods or products. It brings together the 6M's i.e. men, money, machines, materials, methods and markets to satisfy the wants of the people. Production management is a part of business management. It is also called "Production Function" Production management is slowly being replaced by operations management.
