Mycobacterial genetics

The study of genetic variation in Mycobacteria of host pathogens interactions, identification of gene role in virulence of the bacilli and recognizing the markers of tuberculosis strains and mycobacterial tuberculosis strains is the mycobacterial genetics. It opens way to study mycobacterial genome stability.

Molecular genetics is one of the most rational approaches to determine particular gene functions which can enable the development of various drugs to improve the drug susceptibility in a host for a particular disease. Knowing the gene function can also lead to the development of disease resistant species.

Mycobacterial genetics is also studied to discover new bacteriophages that might contribute towards the treatment of tuberculosis.
