Mycobacteria are a disease causing bacterium that invades in human body basically through the airborne pathways. Mycobacterial diseases cause cellular hyperactivity and serves as the classical model for immune system. Mycobacterial immunology deals with the immunology of mycobacyteria from its entry in the host to the last step of its latent infection. It includes all the immune factors of tuberculosis.
Mycobacterial Diseases come in two forms: contained form and the aggressive form. People suffering from contained form of mycobacterial diseases develops only the Cell-mediated immunity. However, sufferers from aggressive form of disease mounts up the humoral immune response to the infecting mycobacteria.
The aggressive form of mycobacterial diseases are characterised by the presense of a large count of mycobacterias which rage uncontrolled in the infected host.
