Mycobacterial virulence

Although the disease causing mycobacterium species donot liberate any toxic substance as such but is has a specific virulent structure that causes disease. Some virulent characters of mycobacterium includes its structural and physical properties such as its mechanism of entering in the cell, its morphology, its chemical nature and its intracellular growth property.

Knowledge of MTBC virulence factors is essential for the development of new vaccines and drugs to help manage the disease toward an increasingly more tuberculosis-free world.

A large number of different virulence factors have evolved in MTBC members as a response to the host immune reaction. Mycobacterial virulent factors basically includes mycobacterial cell wall and its cellular pathway.
