Orthopedic Biomechanics

Biomechanics is the study of the structure and function of biological systems such as humans, animals, plants, organs, and cells by means of the methods of mechanics. Bone susceptibility to fracture is related to Its energy-absorbing capacity and modulus of elasticity.Injuries with loading involving higher rapid velocities dissipate greater energy and result in greater fracture communication, soft tissue damage and displacement. Long bone shaft fractures resulting from high-energy injuries have a higher rate of bone healing complications than fractures of low-energy injuries due to severity of soft tissue injury associated with high-energy injuries.
