Study of viruses and the diseases they cause. In the laboratory, viruses have served as useful tools to better understand cellular mechanisms. The laboratory techniques used in the identification and study of viruses."The most commonly used laboratory methods for the detection of viruses and virus components in biological samples can be broadly divided in to three categories -those that measure virus infectivity ,those that examine viral serology and those that rely on molecular methods .One method which does not precisely fit in to any of these categories is the use of imaging techiques to directly visualize virus particles .Methods of study of viruses are isolation and cultivation ,tissue culture ,detection ,identification and diagnosis, tissue culture methods ,cytopathic effects.
